I ate a chocolate chip Cliff bar for breakfast this morning. Exciting? Not really. But inspiration sometimes ignites through unlikely, routine places… Snack bars, now that I think about it, have played an important role in my life. In elementary school, dad would always pack one in with my ham sandwich and apple juice box, but entering high school, my beloved snack bars were replaced with fruit, a more grown up accompaniment, he thought, to my sandwich and juice box. Luckily, I was befriended by a lonesome classmate who enticed me into a friendship with the daily lure of a granola bar – cinnamon apple, chocolate chip, peanut butter, I was never too particular; 20 years later, little has changed, my friend from high school remains one of my dearest buddies and I still enjoy the delicious combination of granola, candy, nuts and dried fruit rolled into neat little portable bars of tasty goodness.
KIND makes wholesome, all natural fruit and nut bars with ingredients that “you can pronounce and see”, but it’s so much more; KIND is founded on a movement of unexpected acts of kindness, or as the company terms it: KINDINGS. Conceived by renowned social entrepreneur Daniel Lubetzky the concept is simple; the first Tuesday of each month, the KIND movement is challenged to participate in a specific KINDING mission, if enough KINDAHOLICS sign up to complete the mission, KIND will carry out a BIG KIND act! Past missions included:
- December 2011 – donate your time or an item to a local shelter of food bank within your community; MISSION COMPLETED, BIG KIND ACT: KIND partnered with Publix and the Chapman Partnership to deliver toys and gifts to hundreds of homeless children.
- October 2011 – send a thoughtful note or email to a woman who has impacted your life; MISSION COMPLETED, BIG KIND ACT: KIND partnered with the National Breast Cancer Foundation to hand deliver care packages to women undergoing radiation and chemotherapy.
The movement has committed over 160,000 KIND acts to date, in 2011 KIND contributed more than $1 million toward spreading kindness through KIND movement efforts, and in 2010 granted over $100,000 in product and donations. Could KIND be any cooler? YES! KIND has a food truck that gives out KIND bars while spreading the word of the KIND movement, and apparently, Gwyneth Paltrow and Rachael Ray are fans.
Thank you KIND for making our world wonderful!
